“I create through manipulation of objects and light. “

Dave Hull is a visual storyteller. His life changed after viewing Star Wars at age 9 and has been drawn to filmmaking ever since.  The combination of artistic and technical challenges found in visual effects, is what fuels his creative fire.  Each project is truly unique which offers unique tests and rewards.

Dave has created art using multiplane photography, which is usually used in traditional animation.  By placing and lighting objects on layers of glass, Dave creates fantastic images in-camera.  Each of his multiplane images takes approximately 50 hours to produce. AI or Photoshop is never used in his artwork.  Dave has also started to work with triangles and geometry for installation pieces. Since his work has always had a sense of space, he is now exploring spatial works minus the camera.

Dave Hull completed a Bachelor of Science in Film and Television Production from Montana State University followed by an Internship at Lucasfilm.  Afterwards he worked on a Visual Effects shot for Michael Jackson’s music video “Black or White”.  Returning to Montana, he spent years honing his PC animated shorts which ultimately led to his exploration and development of multiplane photography.
